Regarding Software for the course:
You will need access to a PDE solver.
There are several options on campus for solving 134 problems: Matlab has
a PDE toolbox, and COMSOL MultiPhysics is also available in the ECI Lab. One simple commercial package called FlexPDE has a free student edition (link below). This runs on a PC,
so if you want to use Flex, be sure you arrange for the download and
installation prior to week#3. The homework solutions and example files
will be presented using FleX PDE.
For most other homework problems,
Mathematica or MATLAB shoudl prove useful. A simple Mathematica tutorial
can be found here.
Note: The FlexPDE site also has a free
.ZIP file which contains a book ("Fields
of Physics") that describes how to use FlexPDE and a set of example
files. The example files are useful. |
